RULES & CONSTITUTION

 

1: CLUB NAME

The club shall be known as “The Stoneleigh Riding Club”

 

2: CLUB OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Club are to:

  • Encourage riding as a sport and recreation

  • Promote good fellowship among riders

  • Improve and maintain a standard of riding and horsemanship

  • Organise instructional meetings, lectures and competition events and other activities deemed to further the Club objectives

  • Be affiliated to the British Horse Society

  • Support and co-operate with recognised organisations interested in the breeding and use of breeds and types of horses and ponies

  • Investigate the subject of bridle tracks and rights of way with a view to opening those that have been closed and maintaining and more clearly defining those that are in existence

  • Concern itself with any other objective which will benefit the horse and horse owner in the district

 

3: MEMBERSHIP

  • Senior members shall be persons who have attained the age of eighteen years on 1st January of the current year. Junior members shall have attained their 10th birthday and be less than 18 on 1st January of the current year

  • The Committee shall expel from membership of the Club any members who has willfully disobeyed any of the Rules of the Club, or who has, in the opinion of the Committee been guilty of any conduct derogatory to the character or prejudicial to the interests of the Club providing that before expelling them the Committee shall ask them for an explanation of their conduct 

  • Honorary membership may be confirmed by the Committee upon any person deemed to have rendered notable service to the club

  • All members taking part in Club, Area or National competitions, instructional rides, training events etc will dress in full accordance with the rules of the British Riding Clubs (BRC)

 

4: SUBSCRIPTIONS

  • The annual subscription shall be due on 1st January each year, if applying after 1st January the membership will run for a full 12 months from the date of payment.

  • The annual subscription rate shall be a sum determined by the Committee

  • Committee members shall not pay an annual subscription after they have served on the Committee for more then twelve months

 

5: THE COMMITTEE

  • The powers of management shall be vested in the Club’s Committee consisting of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and up to ten other Committee members

  • Seven committee members shall form a quorum

  • At the AGM each year one third of the members of the Committee shall retire, the members who retire being those who have been in office the longest, as for those who have been in office for the same amount of time the members to retire shall be determined by lot. Retiring members shall be eligible for re-election 

  • The Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected annually by the Committee from amongst their number. This election shall take place at the first Committee meeting following the AGM

  • The decision of the Committee shall be final unless over ruled at General Meeting

  • The Committee shall be the sole authority for the interpretation of the Club’s Rules and Constitution or for anything relating to the Club. Not provided therein and their decision shall be final and binding on members

  • The Committee may formulate bye-laws for the detailed running of the Club and elect sub-committees for any special activities of the Club which the Committee may authorise.

  • The Committee shall have power to fill any casual vacancy arising among members of the Committee, and to co-opt additional members; any person joining the Committee by these means shall retain office until the next AGM and shall then be eligible for re-election

  • the Committee may appoint annually a President and Vice Presidents; these shall not, by virtue of such appointment, become members of the Committee

  • No person shall serve as a Committee member of the Club at the same time as serving as a Committee member of another Area 5 affiliated Riding Club

  • No member of the Committee may be an un-discharged bankrupt

 

 

6: GENERAL MEETINGS    

  • The Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall be held before the end of October in each year to transact the following business:

    • to receive and, if approved, to adopt a statement of the Club’s accounts to the end of the preceding financial year

    • to fill vacancies on the Committee

    • to adopt an Auditor

    • to deal with any special matter which the Committee may desire to bring before the members and to receive suggestions from the members for consideration by the Committee

  • Notice convening the AGM shall be sent to all members not less than fourteen days before the meeting and shall specify the matters to be dealt with 

  • Notice may be given to any member by sending it by post to them at the address on the members list or by e-mail. If any member has no UK address they shall not be entitled to receive any notice. The accidental omission to give notice of a meeting to, or the non-receipt of a notice of a meeting by any member shall not invalidate the proceedings of that meeting

  • A Special General Meeting (SGM) may be called by the Committee, or by a request signed by not less than five members specifying the business to be discussed

  • The Secretary shall give all members ten days notice of such a meeting and shall specify in the notice the matters to be dealt with at the meeting

 

7: FINANCIAL MATTERS

  • The accounts of the club shall be audited each year by a person appointed by the committee

  • If the Club ceases to exist then the following will apply:

    • All the assets and cash, except those in the Fred Garner Training Fund, shall, after all debts and liabilities have been met, be divided among the current members whose names have been on the membership list continuously for at least twelve months prior to the date of cessation of the Club

  • If the Club ceases to exist then the following will apply to the Fred Garner Training Fund (the Fund):

  • the assets and cash of the Fund are to be kept together inalienably with the name, and used to facilitate training in any activity which is equine related as far as possible

    • the Fund is to be administered by any body or organisation legally recognised in the UK, appointed by a majority of members eligible to a share of the final assets of the Club 

    • the administrators so appointed of the Fund shall be directed to maintain the fund in existence as far as possible in perpetuity

 

8: OTHER MATTERS    

  • These rules may be added to, repealed or amended by resolution at any AGM or SGM, provided that no such resolution shall be deemed to have been passed unless carried by a majority of at least two thirds of the members present and voting thereon, and provided that prior notice has been sent to all members stating the proposed amendments

  • The Club, its Committee or persons acting on their behalf shall not be held responsible for any accident or injury to any person or property howsoever caused

    • Every member will be expected to help or steward in some way at one of the two main events we organize each year.  So we are asking that you give up a little time to help at either the Two Day Event which is always held over the bank holiday weekend at the end of May or the dressage qualifier that we run in July. We know time is precious to us all but of late a lot of people who have helped at these events are in not even members and we now we feel it is time for everyone to play their part.
